Future botanist…

So probably all almost 14 month old girls are obsessed with flowers especially pansies…right? Well, since Bree is my first I’m going to have to venture to guess maybe but probably not in the same way Bree is obsessed. First thing in the morning Bree points to the window and if she can find her shoes she points at those and picks them up and then if she’s lucky enough to get the front door open she points at the glass door until Sean or I give in and agree to go outside. Once outside, we proceed to our neighbors’ yard…Scott and Ken. Pretty much we have nothing of color besides green in our yard and Scott and Ken like flowers and can keep them alive so its much more interesting over there. We wander up Scott and Ken’s driveway and then Bree turns to one of us and tugs at our pants until we realize its time…

Time for what you may ask…well the Pansy tour of course. There are three hanging pots of pansies by Scott and Ken’s fence and we make our from each one to the other and back around like a zillion times…one of them is all blue and the two others are multi-colored. She seems to like them all the same. But really these are her favorite. Scott and Ken have flowers all over their yard, but we always go back to her first love…the hanging pansies. Its pretty adorable overall, but we keep thinking she will move on to a new favorite but it doesn’t happen.

Today Scott gave Bree a Begona plant of her own in a cute yellow pot. We have it on the windowsill and I am trying to be optimistic that we can keep it alive…but even if we don’t we always have the pansies!

Bree is one lucky child in that her daddy works for the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) so we have a easy and vast resource when it comes to learning how to plant the right things at the right time of year. We are going to start a little garden for Bree after we get through the next few unpredictable weather weeks.

Today we went to visit Daddy at work and went to lunch with wonderful Aunt Keri. Then Aunt Keri said we could go on one of her adventures…going to pick flowers on the side of the highway. I’m not sure if that is legal or not but they are the botanists…right???

So Bree set out on her first free volunteer work for BRIT. Below are some pictures of the fun….well, fun until the meltdown of Bree about 25 minutes into the project…lol! What can I say that Aunt Keri is a slave driver…

Getting to work Getting to work!

What does this do... What does this do?

Vast fields of weeds, I mean flowers Vast fields of weeds, I mean flowers…

Tiana showing Bree a ladybug Tiana showing Bree a ladybug!

Keri and the ladybug Aunt Keri, where did that ladybug go?

Brook and the highway Yes that’s a highway in the background!

Thanks for letting us tag along Tiana, Keri and Brooke! Ya’ll are the best and Bree hopes her meltdown didn’t scare you too much from having playmates in the future for her and Bauer!!!
