But I’m not ready…

Just a few things that I want to record today that unless you were here you probably won’t find super funny…but they are memories for me as a mom.

One thing I love about kids is how they associate everything.  Bree is slightly obsessed with the movie Madagascar, which in this house is called “Animals”.  She likes to dance to the “Move it, move it” song.  We need to get her dancing on video one of these days.  Today while we were both having a moment in the bathroom together (see paragraph 4) she looks up and there is a picture of a beach (my parents gave it to me from Hawaii) and she starts screaming, “Animals” and pointing to the picture.  Of course I have a picture up in the bathroom of the exact beach the animals in Madagascar wind up stranded on….I am the best mom ever!

Another classic Bree moment today was when she wanted me to take “Finding Nemo” out of the DVD player and put on “Animals”.  This had been the 14 or so request for a change in viewing this afternoon (it was a long rainy afternoon indoors) and we were eating dinner so I said if I turned “Nemo” off then we were putting music on.  She said okay and then when I actually did it and the music came on she started screaming, “No Jesus”.  So it wasn’t a fluke the last time she said “Goodbye Jesus” when I turned off the music.  She really thinks Jesus is the music or hopefully the one singing all the music (we listen to the Christian rock station for those of you just tuning in).  She has that whole God is Jesus, Jesus is God concept down pat I would say!  I think eventually she’ll figure out that Jesus is more than just the music!

Lastly, in my quest to never be in the running for mother of the year award, I have decided today, that I really am not ready to potty train.  Luckily I am already potty trained, but my 2 year old is not and everything I read and lots of other mommies are starting or have already embarked on this adventure.  Bree has been interested off and on.  She typically thinks its fun once or twice a day to get her potty seat out and put it on the big potty and sit and read a magazine.  Today, we got in the house from preschool and I swear she saw me head for the bathroom and she says loudly, “Bree pee pee”.  The first thing that came to my mind was, “Oh no, me first”.  A couple hours later Bree was grunting loudly (she is going to love reading this blog later) and making the posture that meant pooping was going on.   I could smell it and knew pooping had happened.  Then she looks at me and says, “Bree poop potty”.  And I truly tried to convince her to just finish in her diaper.  We ended up on the toilet again, but I was not happy about it.  So it looks like she is ready and I am not.  I need to give myself a peptalk already.  When I was watching Bauer later in the day attempt to crawl again, I wondered why potty training wasn’t more like rolling over or crawling or walking…we don’t help them do these things…they just eventually get it.  I really think we need to mull that over…hmmm.

Here are some pics from today…seems like all my stories are about Bree and all my pics are of my little goober, Bauer.  I added one of my grown up Bree at the end!

Bauer and Daddy got caught in the rain after the grocery store…so his hair was awesome after it dried.  This is his tough guy drooling face.

Bauer can now pull himself up to a stand on this new favorite play center (we owe you the world for this great “hand me down” Aunt Jennifer)!

Oh and Bauer found yet another one of Bree’s toys to try to eat today…you can see all his toys scattered to the sides of him.  Why do kids only want what the other has…I guess that doesn’t end with kids!

Bree is such a big girl eating dinner…yes, we still eat mostly naked especially with spaghetti.  She loves her new cafeteria style plates from Target…she promises me to try something in each space in the tray and so far so good.  Mommy’s promise of icecream might help in that negotiation as well…why mess with success!  Please note how she uses the fork in one hand, but her other hand still helps out…our girl is so efficient in eating!

Night night!
