Slumber Parties to come…

So we’ve been going through a pretty hard time with Bree’s napping schedule of late.  To be perfectly honest we’ve been struggling with her napping since about week 2 of her life, but that’s a whole other issue.

Bree pretty much refuses to nap most days.  Let me paint you a picture that involves all of her clothes coming out of her drawers, all of her toys out of every organizational bucket or shelf, books being torn into tiny tiny pieces, any piece of anything that can be removed from the furniture taken off, etc.  She is amazing at finding things to do in between crying and banging on the door with her feet!  AWESOME!

So on a normal day when we go through all this, I typically go in and get her after I admit defeat (normally an hour or so in).  Then about 4 or 4:30, Bree is so tired from her antics during her non-nap and then due to the fact that she still really desperately needs to nap, she crashes hard.  So she takes a nap finally but only because she is passing out so to speak.  I normally have to wake her up to come down and eat dinner.  Not ideal, but again picking your battles.  These late naps has forced us to move her bedtime back…to like 8:30 or 9.  Brutal for the mom who used to count the minutes between 5-7pm everyday knowing that if I could just get her into bed at 7, the rest of the night was mine.  Oh how life changes so quickly my friends.

Yesterday Bree had her classic late nap from about 4:30-6:30.  And at 9 there were still cries when I turned off her light and said goodnight while quickly closing her door behind me.  I feel kinda mean when she’s actually standing at the door crying “Mama”, but once I’m watching my daily dose of Young and the Restless I feel better!  She banged on her door until about 9:30.  And I finally went in there mainly because I didn’t want Bauer to wake up.  Oh the joys of my children’s bedrooms being separated by a hallway of 3 feet!

I talked to her for awhile and then asked her if she wanted to come lay in mommy’s bed.  My emailing was put on hold, but Bree did say we could watch one of Mommy’s shows…how considerate of her!  So we watched some of “The Real Housewives of New York”.  Luckily every person on the show has a dog with them at all times which Bree found very entertaining.  She cuddled up with me and pointed out all the dogs, buildings, trees, cups, etc. that she saw.  For as frustrating as the girl is sometimes, these are the moments that make it all worth it.  I really think we are so alike in personality that it makes us just drive the other one crazy, but in the end here’s hoping it will lead to a solid friendship!   Here’s also hoping that “The Real Housewives…” viewing won’t scar her for life or make her think she needs to carry around a little dog everywhere!

Another humorous conversation between Bree and I yesterday had to do with Bauer’s utter fascination with her.  He always pulls up on the couch she is sitting on and loves to pull at her blankets, her socks, her clothes, her bowl, whatever she has near her.  This drives her crazy.  Knowing that I can’t really explain to Bauer to not do this and I can’t really explain to Bree that I can’t make Bauer stop doing it, I tried to put a fun spin on it.  He was tugging at her feet and she was immediately annoyed.  I told her it was fun to get your feet tugged on and doesn’t she like to play with Bauer’s feet.  She looked at me with this look of total disdain and said, “No play Bauer’s feet, you idiot”.  Okay so she didn’t call me an idiot, but she implied it pretty heavily.  Oh well, I guess I just let her fight her own battles and luckily Bauer is HUGE so he can hold his own pretty well!

Oh Ms. Bree and Mr. Bauer…what a fun adventure you provide for us…here’s some oldies but goodies in honor of my upcoming 3rd Mother’s Day…unbelievable!
