Party time…

Bauer is 1 and we headed to Dallas to celebrate…I mean what big boy doesn’t want to go out in the big city for a little partying.

First we headed to Sprinkles (which I have been hearing rave reviews from all my sorority women at UTA) which is a high class cupcake bakery near Highland Park.  Bauer didn’t request it, but he loves sweets and really what’s a better excuse to go  try it out than a little boy’s birthday.  Bree was a bit excited for a cupcake herself.  When we pulled up Sean saw the sign with “Beverly Hills” on it and said to me, “No wonder you wanted to come here”…what??!!!

We got 4 different kinds and tried parts of all of them…they are fabulous…its a good thing we do not live closer!

I don’t think the Sprinkles employees were quite ready for our arrival and/or our staying inside to eat said cupcakes at their store.  Oh the Murphy clan leaves such a lasting impression.

Next we were park scouting to let both Bree and Bauer run off some energy before bedtime.  We ended up at a Highland Park Mickey D’s because truly if Bauer could verbalize his favorite meal for his birthday dinner, I’m sure the words “Happy” and “Meal” would have been uttered very quickly.  He is one of those kids…the golden arches probably were introduced a little too early and he is hooked.  But since he eats about 2 nuggets and 10 or so fries at most, I think we are okay.  When he asks to “supersize” the happy meal in a couple years we may have to go cold turkey and stop going!

This McDonald’s had one of the nicest outdoor playlands ever…it was all shaded and the tubes and slides rose about 4 levels high.  Ronald McDonald even came to Bauer’s birthday meal…those Highland Park folks know how to treat us out-of-towners!

Bree loved the freedom of this playland…and Bauer wasted no time warming up to this new challenge…he was walking towards the entrance as soon as he finished off the first few fries.  We had the whole place to ourselves and the sign said parents were welcome to play so Sean and I did our part to wear out our knees and feel claustrophobic.  It was a blast!

Even our big boy needs some milk after a hard play session.  Bauer just started holding his bottle in the last couple weeks so we are going to give him some more time with it before we go to only sippy cups.  It is so true how you become a softy when you move past your first kiddo.  With Bree, I was like a Drill Sargent…her last bottle of formula was the day before her birthday and from then on…only milk.  With Bauer we are still doing a morning and a night feeding and one normally between 3-5am when he wakes up starving.  It’s not ideal, but you know boys need to be coddled a little more than girls.  I have a feeling this is only the beginning of this trend!

After a great dinner was consumed and our two kiddos were hot and sweaty we piled back in the car.  Bauer was out in a matter of minutes and Bree followed shortly.

We got both kids down pretty quick and Sean and I spent the rest of the night watching videos of our two babies and drinking champagne.  Sounds like the perfect life to me!

What a great family night…thanks for having a birthday Bauer so we could get crazy in Big D!
