Back to a simpler time…

August is just passing us by at record speed.  Sean and I are both just wiped, but luckily we’ve gotten to have some fun amongst the chaos.  One of our dear friends Christie turned the big 30 this past weekend and celebrated by having an 80s themed roller skating party.  We had such a great time.  I really felt a bit transported back to a time when things were so much simpler.  Of course you never appreciated it at the time, but worrying about who likes who and what to wear to school on “Free Dress Day” (oh us Catholic uniform girls) seemed like huge issues, but truly to be that young again!

Sean and I are also getting to have a lot of quality time with the kiddos these last few weeks of summer before they return to school.  They are finally both healthy and have been able to do lots of park visits, zoo visits, ice cream trips, and Bree and Sean have rediscovered a love for our very own backyard!  Bree is also finding it so much fun to make Bauer laugh by dancing, saying funny words and throwing blankets at him.  On Tuesday, she made him laugh the majority of the drive back from Grammy’s…it seriously made my heart swell…this two kid thing is beginning to pay off and they are really getting to be such good friends.

I have been extra busy these past couple weeks with UT Arlington Welcome Back Events.  Sean has been great about bringing up the kiddos to hang out with me while I work the events.  Last Friday, they came up for MavsMeet Afterparty and Bree got to put her handprint on our horse statue, eat pizza, watch fireworks and see the beginning of the Star Trek movie that was being shown on the blow up screen.  She now thinks everytime we go up to Mommy’s work she may get to see a movie.  Hilarious.  The family also came out to the Welcome Back Greek BBQ held this past Sunday.  It was a hot hot afternoon and the kiddos stayed in the gym most of the time with their balloons:

But Bree still managed to do some work herself and help us out:

As a celebration of making it through UTA’s Welcome Weekend, we took the kids to a place more for their age group…Chuckie Cheese. This was the first time Bauer has been to Chuckie Cheese as a walker.  And Bree has also moved past the point of being entertained in the toddler section…she just runs around the whole place.  The funniest part is she actually needs less tokens this way…she just runs around like the energizer bunny and touches everything, but rarely realizes she needs money to play the games.  Bauer loved the new freedom of being able to get anywhere and climb on the rides himself.  I think we will have to frequent the Cheese much more often.

There have also been some recent trips to the zoo with Daddy.  They checked out a new part of the zoo, Texas, this week (new to us because we are creatures of habit when it comes to prioritizing zoo animals).  The Texas section has a petting zoo, a place for animal shows and the best part – a ride past a huge longhorn on a train to get there.

So that’s a little update since last week…we are busy, tired, but having such a good time.  We are trying to appreciate the simpler moments and are so thankful everyday that the simpler moments are all our kids have to worry about each day!  Below Bree is pretending to ski using foam blocks and two hockey sticks…Bauer is just chillin’ with his football with his baseball bat and ball nearby!  What a life!
