The end of an era…

I can be a little over-dramatic when I try.  The end of an era…can 3 years constitute an era?

Well, when you’ve been a new parent for those 3 years, I think it automatically counts as an era.

The kids and I headed over to Willow Bend Mall yesterday to meet our fabulous buddies Katy and Meg.  We planned a outing at our beloved “food playground” that we have been frequenting since Bree could only crawl and a lunch trip to Micky D’s.

All and all, it was a fabulous plan.  The Murphys arrived first (strange as that may sound) and as we were getting closer to the playground I noticed that something was different.  Then as we got right up next to it…the truth hit me.  The whole thing had been redesigned.  No more foamy plastic food pieces to jump around on…now we had Warner Brothers characters in doctor office themed scenarios.  The kids didn’t even bat an eye.  They just went on exploring and I must admit had a great time.  I just sat there and was so sad that my kids wouldn’t even remember playing on the the only playground probably in the world that has giant food to play on.  Such a novelty and in a flash it was gone.

I mean we had memories here….and were never consulted about said redesign.

My sweet friend Sarah who spent many an afternoon at the food playground with us sent me some of the following pics.  She is sad as well that her twins (due Nov of this year) won’t ever get to play on the fabulous food playground.

These pics really take me back.  I mean time flies…seriously!  Notice giant spoon, giant steak, giant egg…coolest playground ever!

This was our playground of choice right after Bauer was born when we stayed in Plano with my parents.  Bree forgot all the “trouble” we had brought home from the hospital while playing at the food playground and Bauer just was happy wherever he was being fed.  Notice large grapefruit that Bree is about to jump off of.

So long story short, they didn’t consult me and completely redid the food playground so the memory is only left in our hearts.  Cue sappy sentimental music here.

But we managed to have a good time exploring the new doctor’s office theme playground…maybe equally as unique, but unlikely!

Who needs food when there is a building you can crawl on top of??

“Taaaa-Daaaa”…I love to stand on a big box of band-aids.

I always knew Bree had a big heart!

I’m going to get you Bauer…I’m not scared of a skunk tail!

Cutie Meg hanging with the Baby Tweety bird! The whole thing makes a heart beat sound when you touch it.

It may not be a giant grapefruit, but jumping off of ladybugs is almost as fun!

Say “ahhhhhhh”…and then slide down!

So in the grand scheme of things, my kids just want a place to play and maybe I was a little more attached to the food playground than the kids.  They had a blast on the new equipment and we will go back.  I’ll always have the memories…and the pictures to remind them of the totally unique playground they spent many of their first steps running around at!
