Mini-Mom

No I didn’t shrink…

There is really little of me these days that would be described as “mini”!  This baby is making every part of me grow like a weed!

But I did take on one “mini” characteristic this past weekend!

I’m now a “mini”van owner…

And I’m pretty proud of it.

Me with my new home on the road…how appropriate that my baby bump is beginning to appear!

We’ve gotten a lot of mixed reactions about the minivan purchase.  Some think its fabulous, some think its the kiss of death for whatever dignity you had left after having kids.  Let’s be serious though…its a vehicle to go from point A to point B.  I’m not trying to impress anyone.  I’m trying to keep my kids safe and have easy access to retrieve blankets and/or toys while using my “go go gadget” arm to give out snacks and drinks.  A minivan makes that much easier…especially with three kids.  And yes, I’m lucky enough to already have two kids and one cooking in the oven….so I need a minivan.

There is no emotion that should go along with it except for the “thank God I’m blessed enough to have a family to fill a minivan” and “thank God I’m blessed enough to be able to afford a minivan”.  That’s it.

So don’t send any sympathies my way…and don’t tell me that YOU will never drive a minivan.  Never is a long time and again if there is any kind of statement attached to driving a minivan, its one of accomplishment and love for what I’ve been blessed with.  As I told Sean, its not like we got a minivan to tote around by ourselves…and even if we did, more power to us.

I’m 31 and don’t ever get to pee without an audience…there’s no dignity in that…

On the other hand, I think a minivan makes me pretty cool…and dignified.  My kids think the automatic sliding doors are magic and that I make that magic happen.  I could survive for years with that kind of admiration.

Here’s to the “mini” stage of my life…I couldn’t be happier to have made it to this milestone with my best friend by my side!

Here’s to many a roadtrip and many an adventure in our new ride!

Congrats on the new ride! :) I used to say I would never drive a minivan, but you’re right…functionality is so much more important than looks at this point in our lives! Oh, and I second the whole “never getting to pee in private thing” — when do we get a moment in the bathroom to ourselves again? I guess when they’re about 18 or so!
