Phobias???

Having kids has provided so many opportunities to learn and revisit topics of my own childhood.  I will say that is one of the most fun parts of parenthood….they give you the best possible reason to: visit a park everyday, have a season pass to the zoo, play with as many toys as possible at Toys R Us, eat Cheetos with dinner, sit in a baby wading pool, see the new Disney movie, etc.

They also help you challenge your irrational phobias…

One of mine is a pretty common and deals with any snakes, spiders, or other creepy crawly.

“Luckily” for me just a few weeks ago, the Fort Worth Zoo opened a brand new exhibit:

The name MOLA stands for Museum of Living Art…lots of those snakes, spiders and other creepy crawly living art exhibits!  All of my favorites…

Part of me wanted to let Sean take them inside for the first time, but then the other part of me didn’t want to keep my kids from having a fun experience just because I was terrified.

So we headed inside…after a quick introduction to a turtle statue!

There was little or no time to decide if I was ready for this adventure as I came face to face with a huge python…

I survived the altercation and we headed to a happier place involving swimming turtles and some fish…

The happy place was short-lived.  Around the next corner was one of the longest snakes I’ve ever seen.  Bauer could not get enough…

There was a spider exhibit where the zoo keeper was holding spiders on his actual hand.  Lucky the kids didn’t notice and I didn’t point out this opportunity! The rest was pretty benign involving more of my happy turtles and fish and an iguana or two.

I survived and the kids loved it.  I gave myself a tiny pat on the back and then realized my kids were headed towards the elephants and started to sprint!

Before we headed to the elephants, we heard the train.  You can’t ever hear the train and not get on for a ride.  And that is exactly what the agenda called for.  It was getting really hot so I was grateful for the shade and windy ride.  As we were waiting to head out, Bree looked at me and said, “This is going to be such an exciting ride, Mommy!”  PRECIOUS.

Bree took this pic of Bauer and I…there is some pure talent there!

This cow made me laugh and made me think of my pregnant self this summer.  I will be finding any and all water to cool myself off in…

After we made our round trip on the train, we passed by the flamingos and exchanged “hellos” and “goodbyes” before we headed to the car.  The kids did so great.  Another phobia was beaten that day as my two toddlers and I made it through the zoo sans stroller and I wasn’t exhausted or thinking that the whole adventure was my worst idea ever.  We are really beginning to fall into a rhythm and I love it.    These next few months before Baby B comes are going to be very special…very special indeed.
