Polar Opposites of Purple…

TCU Football is back and the Murphy clan could not be happier about this.

The season tickets were ordered months ago and in the season of lake weekends and endless summer days, it seemed a million years away.

This year TCU opened up it’s season with a game at the new(ish) Cowboy Stadium against Oregon State.  Sean and I had decided we weren’t going to go but at the last minute due some amazing grandparent babysitting and a winning online poker game, we ended up there with the mobs of purple and orange.

It was a such a fun game (not just because we won), but mainly because it was in an amazing stadium, in incredible seats and it was just the two of us.  We actually got to watch the whole game, talk to our friends, and be as obnoxious as we wanted when the plays were going our way or not!

It was heaven.  I forgot how much I truly like watching a live football game…start to finish!

And what a win for our Frogs!

There may never be a date night that can rival this one!

The view from the “not so cheap” seats!  We were in the Oregon State section…hilarious!

Our fabulous friends and cheering partners, Ashley and Jeff!

Fast forward seven days later…the second game of the season was in Fort Worth on campus.  Let’s just say the experience of taking kids to one of these games changes things considerably.

Add in one adorable TCU cheerleader!

One wild and crazy red-headed toddler…

Some pregame tailgating….and cheering with our friend, Lasater…

Some corn dogs for dinner…

Some dippin’ dots as a last ditch diversion of hopes of making it at least to half-time..

An exhausted but happy mom and dad…

Some unique activities involving corn dog sticks…

And a quick getaway minutes before halftime…

That is the experience of yesterday at the home football game. The Frogs still pulled off an incredible win…we just didn’t watch much of it! I did catch one moment on film that reminded me that we got to see maybe a few plays…

As I’m reminded a million times a day as a parent, things will never be the same, but that doesn’t mean they are worse or better, they are just different memories.  Memories that make you yearn for your bed instead of thinking about the bar you will go to with your friends after the game.  Memories that involve pushing a stroller back to the car at halftime instead of watching TCU trounce their opponent hand and hand with your husband until the last seconds tick off the clock.

Almost 4 years into this parenting thing and I miss those “simpler” times quite a bit.  But these chaotic times are pretty darn irresistible as well.

As I write this, I’m watching B & B have naptime in their bedroom.  They have been playing out of their beds together for the last 30 minutes.  I just scanned the room to see Bauer (with Bree’s Dora hat on) climbing the ladder to Bree’s bed and both of them drumming on the edge of the top bunk to their own made up music.

I’ll take chaotic for moments like this!

And as much as I always say I’ll get a babysitter for some of the TCU games this season, the clan and all it’s craziness will most likely come intact for the rest of the games.

We are gluttons for punishment like that…

And I just love Bree in that cheerleader outfit!
