Christmas Morning…2010

One of the many joys of toddlers is that they don’t really have any concept of time.  So when we said last night (Christmas Eve Eve) that they better get in bed so Santa could come, Bree did not miss a beat.  She didn’t even want story time.  All she knew was that she had to be asleep before Santa could come.  It was the easiest time we have ever had getting her to go to bed.  Bauer was oblivious to the whole thing mostly, but still seemed to know something good would happen if he could ever get himself to go to sleep.

So with the two older kids down, Santa and Ms. Claus got busy.  We had cookies to eat, milk to drink, presents to put out and most importantly a bike to put together (luckily Santa took the lead on this one, thus it got done in record time).

It was a beautiful sight to see all the presents under the tree after Santa had visited!

I was so excited to see the reaction of the kids.  As I should have expected, both kids came straight to our room (as is normal every morning) and requested milk/apple juice and a show while laying in our bed.  Bree had completely forgotten the reason she fell asleep so quickly the night before.  After a few hints, her memory was jogged and she ran into the other room.  Luckily Sean was in place to get a video!

It was love at first sight when she saw the long awaited “Princess” bike.  She took a few laps around the house before she even became obsessed with the other presents.

Bauer got a trike and was pretty excited as well but unfortunately I haven’t gotten a picture of that yet. He got on and off very quickly when he saw Bennett asleep in the pack and play.  He wanted to wake him up so he could join in the fun.

Then the random opening began…it was pretty fast and furious.  Bree was way more into the opening this year (the more presents, the better) and Bauer in 2 year old form wanted to play with every present that he opened before even looking at another present.  It created quite a dynamic.  Throw in an infant that had to be fed and you can just call Christmas Morning 2010…controlled chaos (only controlled because all the doors were locked and the presents ran out eventually)!

Bennett enjoyed a snooze during most of the chaos.  He is truly a third kid who can sleep through anything!

The stockings got opened last which was fun because even after all the presents were done, there was still another surprise!

Bauer and Bree are present opening professionals.

Bauer showing Bennett and I his new basketball hoop that glows in the dark.

Bauer loved his stocking goodies as well!

Santa was so nice to get the kids some new play-dough in all our favorite colors!

Bree was so nice to “help” Bennett open his presents.  Notice Bauer’s trike in the picture!

One adorable princess and her daddy!

One happy Ms. Claus and Santa glad that Christmas “morning” was such a success!

Bennett getting the only present he cares about…a bottle!

Who knew bathtub toys could be played with right away…sans the water!

Bunson had a stocking full of goodies and was so happy that Santa did not forget him!

After the chaos, we enjoyed watching our new movie, Cars.  And eating some yummy monkey bread.

Bree then tried out her new wheels/freedom on the open road of Brookside.

And then we watched the rain come down.  No snow this year, but it sure is cold.

The playing continues as I write this and we will be heading to the lake to spend Christmas Eve with Grammy and Granddad.  The rest of the Covert clan will head up to the lake tomorrow.

I have a feeling there may be a princess bike along for the ride in the minivan today!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
