Double Loopty loop…

As many of your know, the Murphys spent the better part of the last 5 years calling Arlington, TX home.  We drove on I-30 past Six Flags more times than we can count.  The kids would scream “ROLLER-COASTERS” and “double loopty loop”  every time the coasters got within their view.  Seeing the roller-coasters mostly meant we were close to home if we were coming back from Grammy’s or another adventure.  The kids always asked when they would get to go ride the “loopty loop” and we always said when they got older.

So fast forward to a time where we haven’t lived in Arlington for almost a year and we asked Bree what she would like to do to commemorate her impending entry into “real school”…i.e. kindergarten.  I gave her some options of a water park, a movie, painting pottery, or an amusement park.  She instantly said SIX FLAGS.  I did some research online to make sure that she would be tall enough to ride some of the rides and told her yes, we could finally go to Six Flags.  Apparently, the people who decide how tall you have to be to ride rides made their recommendations while on crack.  Even Bauer would be tall enough to ride the Shock Wave aka “double loopty loop”.

The true irony of heading to Six Flags was that we no longer lived right around the corner….we would have to head out from Plano.

Sean and I both took the day off work and gave Bree the option of inviting her little (big) brother along for the fun.  At first she was hesitant to invite Bauer, but then once I told her that she wouldn’t be able to come on his big day before kindergarten if she didn’t let him come now, she was quickly convinced.  Oh that clever parenting.

So with Bennett none the wiser at preschool, our foursome headed out to live on the wild side for the day!

We picked the Friday before the majority of public schools started (in DFW) and boy, was that the best decision ever.  The lines were minimal, it wasn’t as hot as it should have been and we just had an overall great inaugural trip to the park.

We are about to have a kindergartener…what the what???!!!

We loved us some Looney Tunes USA! Such great little kid rides with no lines!

Our first attempt at a roller coaster…a little kid one!

Teacups!  Towards the end of the day, Bree announced she could not go on one more ride that went in circles!

Airplanes…which the kids get to make go up and down themselves…FANCY!

Parachutes…one of my favorites. Bauer was so excited to ride the train around the park!  So excited that he took a little nap (so did Bree)!

Batman…well the kiddie version!

Another progressive step towards the Shockwave…the Mine Train!

Who knew you could drive at age 5?

Or age 4?

Then it was time….time to brave the “double loopty loop”.  All those times of passing by on I-30 with wishful eyes wanting to ride were about to come to fruition.

I wish we had an after picture of our ride on the Shockwave.  It would have involved Bauer giving thumbs up to the crowd waiting to get on the ride and Bree and I both hunched over with our eyes closed asking if it were finally over.    Sean of course was just on cloud nine that we had somehow convinced both kids to ride on the rollar-coaster.  It was pretty incredible!  My motion sickness kicked into high gear and both Bree and I were a little green walking out of the park, but it was nonetheless the best way to end our day at Six Flags!

Bree and I had a little rest on a huge chair in the Texas part of the park and picked out a few souvenirs…

And then we headed out, tired and ready for some Micky D’s icecream (or diet coke) to get us back to Plano!

What a great first time to Six Flags.  Their stamina and enthusiasm gave me great hope for our trip to Disney World in a couple months.  But more than that, the day showed me that I was definitely the mom of three growing kids….the days of telling our kids that they would be able to do things like ride a roller-coaster when they were “older” were slowly coming to an end!

And as long as they invite me along for these epic adventures, I’m okay with that!
