Top Dog…I mean “Top Whale”

We got an email from Bree’s teacher earlier this week telling us that at the 9 week spirit assembly today she was going to receive an award.  She invited us to attend.  Of course, like any good helicopter parent, I called Grammy and made sure Sean had it on his calendar.  We were there early and were ready to applaud and take pictures of whatever ribbon of participation she was about to get.

We waited as they had lots of kids stand up in each grade level for different awards dealing with “Readiness”, “Doing your job well”, “Being nice to others”, etc.  It was awesome to see so many ways the school recognizes its students for positive behavior.

Towards the end the assembly, Bree still hadn’t received an award or even been asked to stand up.  The curiosity was killing us.  But it seems they really did save the best for last.

The principal went up to announce the last awards called Top Whale Job Done (everything is done in a metaphor of fish and the ocean).  One student from each grade level would be recognized for being the epitome of all the other awards combined.   These students were nominated by all teachers in that grade level unanimously.

The note attached to the award says: “Dear Briana, This very special award is for showing our four fish principles every day.  You kind manners and good behavior really “make my day”.  You always try to do the right thing!  You “choose your attitude” with kind, positive words and actions.  You are a helpful friend and a joy to teach!  I am so proud of you and very glad you are in my class!  Love, Mrs. Oliveri

Well, now that’s pretty darn cool.

Bree had no idea she was going to get the award (and in Kinder you don’t really equate your parents being at something having a reason behind it).

She got to pick a whale stuffed animal out of the big basket and stand up in front of the whole school. I think secretly she was most excited about adding a new stuffed animal to her collection…and as a bonus it was PINK!

To say we are proud is an understatement.  She definitely is falling into the trap her mom did…setting the bar high.  Now, she just have to keep the streak going…just kidding (well kind of)!

Anyways, love sharing these moments with Bree and love that Grammy was able to come see our superstar in action as well!

The school doing a cheer with the letters to their name:  S-A-I-G-L-I-N-G (no wonder Bree can spell her school name so easily…practice!)Bree’s sweet bff, KatherineBree up at front receiving her award with her awesome teacher Ms. Oliveri!

I told Sean I didn’t get much of a smile when I went up to get a close-up picture and he laughed.  Then he said, “Bree takes her work (school) very seriously!”  Obviously, it is paying off!

Bree’s groupies!

What a memorable way to finish out Bree’s first semester at Saigling!  Here’s to many more fabulous semester’s to come!
