Nine years and counting…
Sean and I played hookey to celebrate this accomplishment a couple weeks ago and seriously caught up on conversations that probably started sometime during our eighth year of marriage. Life is busy. That is an epic understatement. We need more days like that Wednesday to connect and remember.
It’s been a journey to this point. The first 2 years were newlywed chaos and the next 6 were filled with pregnancies, babies, moves aka big life changes. The past year has been calmer on the kid front but has allowed Sean and I time to figure out where we are personally, together and apart. It’s been a wake-up call to say the least. We are working on redefining our priorities together now that we have some time to breathe. It’s scary and exciting! Regardless of what it looks like, we are more committed than ever to doing it together.
That is my favorite part of celebrating an anniversary….knowing that this is the guy I committed to all those years ago and loving that I would make that decision again and again.
The morning started with roses and mimosas. I think if more Wednesdays started like this “hump day” would be way more exciting
After we dropped the kids at their respective schools, we headed to the Bishop Arts District for some OddFellows breakfast! It was our first time there and even though we just stuck with coffee, I loved this part of their menu. I feel like this is my motto most days!
We headed to Delaney Vineyards after walking around the Bishop Arts district (I could window shop with Sean for hours). But I could also drink wine for hours! Decisions, decisions. Delaney Vineyards is in Grapevine, TX. We had numerous vineyards in this area alone. I’ve decided that will visit them all in the next 9 years of marriage! Good to see I set my goals so high!
After our amazing wine tasting (she let us taste EVERYTHING), we ended up buying a couple bottles of the sweet red…quite a departure for the guy and girl who love their white wines!
Love that we still don’t mind showing PDA…that has got to be a good sign for us!
What tastes good after wine, Yummilicious of course!
Then it was time for Sean’s surprise. The 9 year anniversary is traditionally celebrated with pottery. So that’s what Sean set up…a pottery lesson at Quigley’s Clayhouse. We defintiely won’t be having our own pottery show any time soon, but we had so much fun learning a new skill together. Sean showed his perfectionist side which I rarely see. It was nice to not be the type A one in the situation for once. We head back in a week or so to paint all the pottery with kids in tow. I don’t think there will be room for any Type A’s at during that outing.
The last event of the best anniversary Wednesday ever involved the whole family and a trip to the circus. Sean scored tickets for cheap through lots of Craigslist hounding and we managed to take the kids and park for less than $100 (quite a feat these days when you try to take 5 people anywhere)! The best part is we took our own snacks and managed to convince the kids that they did not need any light up swords, glowing hats and/or gigantic elephant stuffed animals to make their circus trip complete. And it actually worked. Ironically enough the family of 4 in front of us decided to buy everything the circus vendors had to offer including food and souviners. But we still managed to hold strong! Slowly but surely we are learning that what is a good distraction isn’t necessarily a good childhood lesson! It helped that the circus really was awesome.
Couldn’t think of a better way to spend my anniversary…thanks Sean for helping me create our own little Murphy circus! It’s been an adventure to say the least!
Here’s to great things happening during our 10th year of marriage and to our next anniversary when Sean and I actually may travel AWAY for more than 24 hours SANS kids. I may dream about this mythical occurance every night….
