The Great Pumpkin Hunt

So Bree, Bauer and I set off for one of our walks that ends at the park this morning.  The weather just could not be more perfect this week…I love Texas!

Bree is requiring more and more entertainment during these walks.  Watching the passing trees and squirrels just doesn’t cut it anymore.  And since these walks are most of my cardio workouts on a normal week, I like to try and go at least a couple miles.  So I’ve had to come up with some games…

Today’s game was the Great Pumpkin Hunt.  I want to thank all of my neighbors in the Butler neighborhood for decorating the outside of their houses for Halloween so diligently.  I never remembered seeing so many pumpkins and spider webs and ghosts in front yards before.  So this game was pretty simple and just involved Bree finding and counting as many pumpkins as she could.  We went on streets we never had ventured on before and Bree was introduced to “ghosts”.  She learned that they say “BOO” and we practiced “trick or treat” some more as well!  We were gone for over an hour and half b/c everytime I headed towards home, she would say, “More, More”…and we were off to find more pumpkins.

Bree’s a pumpkin lover!

Bauer can’t wait to search for pumpkins himself!

I’ve discovered there are different categories of decorating for this holiday:

The scarecrow route…more fallish than Halloweenish.

The scary route…large spiders in trees that may have really freaked me out if it had been dark.

The kid decorated window route

The cartoony pumpkin route…this pumpkin was just adorable.

The graveyard route…these were way more popular than I would have thought.

The simple flag route.

And Bree’s favorite…the blow-up pumpkin/ghost route.

I’m thinking next year I’m really going to have to up my game…the simple “Welcome Friends” pumpkin may just not be enough for my Halloween loving toddler!
