“Jumping” into the Holiday Break…

Nothing says happy holidays like a bow on your head and some Mr. Potatos glasses on your face (well at least for Bree)!

Here we are at the holiday break…two glorious weeks with no school for Bree and no work for Julie.  Bauer’s schedule doesn’t really change very much and Sean actually gets a little break as well because he can get more daytime work hours in because he won’t be taking care of Bauer 3 mornings a week.  All and all it looks to be a fabulous end to 2008 and a fun start to 2009.

Once I finished working on Friday…the Murphys hit the ground running…literally!  We played out in the cove and then went for a family run on the gorgeous 60 degree evening.  The new jogging stroller is still as fabulous as ever.

That night Sean and I had planned on spending some time with his hockey buddies, but those plans fell through so we took the opportunity for our Christmas date night.  My parents were watching the kiddos so we headed up to the Shops at Legacy to see what fun we could have.

We started with margaritas at Mi Cocina, had a stroll around the beautiful lake up there, ate some wonderful seafood at Half Shells and ended the night with some coffee and conversation back at the lake.  We both truly felt like old “pre-kid” selves for the first time in a long time.  We felt silly, spontaneous, and just really carefree.  We love those kiddos, but its nice to have that time alone to refuel as husband and wife.  It was a great Christmas present to each other.  And thanks Mom and Dad for watching those crazy kiddos!

Saturday we headed to Toys R Us (yes the Saturday before Christmas…we ARE those people) to finish our shopping.  We bought and returned a wagon and then bought the one we should have bought to begin with…the Saturday before Christmas at Toys R Us is more fun if you stand in line to purchase a big item, then make it halfway home and discover you bought the wrong one, go back to return it and while waiting in line spot the one you should have had and then buy it!  Oh that wagon will always have a special place in our hearts.  We are both excited to put it together tonight!

Saturday night we headed to one our favorite annual events…Loop Christmas.  We had dinner at Taverna in downtown Fort Worth and then headed to our friend Keri’s house for a fun bonfire.  Two adult nights in one weekend, Sean and I were just giddy.

Today we headed back to Arlington for what we hoped would be an easy afternoon.  We put both kiddos down for naps and were all set to enjoy some lazy football watching.  Then all the sudden we heard a giant thud and we raced up the stairs knowing full well what had happened.  Bree had successfully exited her crib.  She JUMPED out.  All I could think is that the world as we know it has come to an end.  The toddler bed is inevitable and her room will have to much more baby proofed and on and on and on.  I mean I’m totally thankful for the almost 23 months of crib bliss she gave us, but you begin to think it wil just continue on forever and no transition will ever have to happen…not so!  Maybe that was her Christmas present to us…we were surprised to say the least!

Bauer is making strides of his own…we think within the next few weeks he will definitely be sitting up on his own.  It’s so cool to watch his progress.  And he’s just the happiest kid…that smile is on his face all the time!

Beaker and Bunson got new dog beds..so they are feeling the love as well!  Bree helped pick them out…and both kiddos helped break them in once Sean got them home!

It seems like we’ve jumped in many ways full force into the holiday break and hopefully we can slow down a little and savor the fun times!

Hope everyone has a great Christmas week!
