Supermom…nah…just super lucky!

I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather for the last week or so.  Yesterday was the first time I felt really energetic enough to go for a run, to make it through the work day, to not just crawl into bed at night feeling like I’d been run over…you know that feeling.   So today, I had a to do list the size of Texas…and I intended on getting it knocked down to at least that of maybe only the Panhandle…okay enough bad metaphors!

But regardless, the kids and I had a great early morning and as Bauer went down for the morning nap he just can’t shake, Bree and I ordered wedding gifts, baby gifts, engagement gifts, etc. online.  She had so much fun helping me pick stuff out.  We were knocking stuff off the list like crazy women.   We then went to her room to get dressed for the second time of the day and tried on a bunch of shoes that we inherited from our cousin Skylar.  Bree settled on her brown boots to go with her TCU shirt and her animal print pants.  Classic!  Thanks for all the shoes, Beth and Skylar, I see hours of entertainment getting dressed in our future!

Then I called a local pharmacy about the kids flu shots and got a Rx sent over for us to get them in the afternoon (more on that later).  I talked to Bree about Halloween and asked her what she wanted to be.  I told her Bauer was going to be a Cardinal baseball player (we got a great uniform while we were in Quincy, IL from Mee-Maw).  Once Bree heard Bauer was going to be a baseball player, she immediately announced, “I will be a football player.  Go Frogs!”  Talk about a heart melting…I was on board immediately and called Sean at work to tell him that we would be at the TCU bookstore around lunchtime to get a jersey and to have lunch with Dad.  I mean could this day get any better.  We had an amazing time on campus…

Bree immediately put on the jersey we bought at the TCU bookstore…its a little big, but we have big plans for Halloween!

Bree and Bauer wandered in opposite directions (of course) on campus.

Bauer and Daddy battling over who gets the straw to Daddy’s drink!  Bauer won!

Once Bree learns to smile in pictures, we are just going to be twinkies!

We dropped Daddy back at work and headed to get flu shots.  What in my mind should have been an hour detour before naptime, turned into a 3 hour adventure including a grocery run at Target to kill time, a wild goose chase using an outdated address for the pharmacy and lots of shenanigans once we actually arrived.  I’ve never been more thankful for car dvd players in my life.  Dora kept the kids entertained almost flawlessly while Mommy not so quietly lost her mind in the front seat.  But long story short, we all got flu shots and I’m just thinking positive that they will in fact keep us well this fall, winter, spring, etc.  Crossing all fingers and toes and stocking up on Purell!

After the Great Flu Shot Adventure of 2009 ended, I had just enough time to touch base with a friend on the phone, get gas, and get Bauer down for what I knew would be a much too short but well deserved nap before Bree’s dance lesson.  I found some items to throw together for a dinner, got Bree dressed and on her third wind of excitement for dance and we were out the door again.

As we were pulling up, I remembered that it was Parent Observation Day at dance so the tired boy and I would have to stick around instead of heading back home.  So Bauer and I camped out in the back of the Rav-4 and ate his favorite Cheetos and milk (that might be my only true supermom moment of the day in that I remembered to throw them in my bag on my way out the door).  The picnic was a great success and we killed about 35 minutes eating and headed inside for the big dance “reveal”.

Parent Observation is really more of a “we really have been teaching your kid something behind this closed door for the past month” show and a chance for the teacher to talk recital and other performance details.  At age 3, Bree will be in her first recital on May 22…mark your calendars now…I’m so excited!  From what I saw tonight, the “Minis” have a long way to go, but gosh darn it they tried to dance between running back and forth to moms and dads and crying!  Bauer and I walked in and Bree was so surprised to see us that she started running to us.  I tried to be stern and tell her to go back and sit down and she started crying huge devastating tears.  AMAZING!  She finally did dance about half of what they had learned when she realized I wasn’t leaving again!  It is so hard to be two!

I taped their debut and afterward Bree immediately came over and took off her shoes…almost like “my feet hurt, I’ve been dancing all day”

And then she got crazy again…a little “Grease” dancing

Our future ballerina…awwww!

And then just our little monkey!

The wall behind Bree in the last two pictures says “Jesus Loves Me”…the whole studio was started as a Christian based dance lessons alternative to the other dance studios in Arlington…so there are bible verses and references everywhere.   I love it.  United Dance and Cheer is awesome!  Glad the recital isn’t until May so hopefully the girls will actually dance, but they have another “performance” at Holiday Magic in November to “Frosty the Snowman”…can’t wait!  The dancing career of Briana Murphy has begun!

So that was our day today.  I wouldn’t have rather spent it with any other people.  Just the life of your average supermom, or just your super lucky mom, I like to say.  This super lucky mom is going to veg and go to sleep…being super lucky makes you super tired!
