Little things to be thankful for…

As Thanksgiving approaches this year, I find myself getting excited for all the usual things: for a few days off work, cowboys football and for gorging myself on some turkey and pumpkin pie.  But the true meaning of the holiday rings true in my heart more this year than ever before.  Throughout this year, I’ve gotten to learn from the best about what I should really be thankful for.  My children teach me everyday that life is completely what you make of it and all the stresses just aren’t worth our time.  They are continually showing me that even though I want to control it all, you have to let go and know that someone else is out there watching out for you!

Life is so simple and yet so complex for children.  They spend every day living in the moment which as adults we sooo wish we could or would do.  But they are also in a constant state of learning to do huge things: walk, talk, understand, read, explore.  These tasks can be exhausting, but so exciting at the same time.  As adults we have huge milestones too, but we don’t appreciate all the effort they require from us and get mad at ourselves when we can’t get it all done.  Kids just take a nap or two until they feel like they can start all the fun over again.  We can learn so much from them!

So this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for God’s ultimate plan and how He gives us the chance to learn so much from those around us who know the least but love life the most.

Today, I shared some little moments that made me so thankful to be a mom of two amazing kiddos:

Bree found a baby doll in “Breeland” that she had never had much interest in.  It was actually the baby doll that my best friend Keri gave me as a joke at my first baby shower for Bree.  It is indeed a very ugly baby doll if such a thing exists.  So in honor of the woman who gave me this baby doll, I named her Baby Keri.  It makes me laugh everytime Bree says it.  Bree had an amazing morning with Baby Keri.  It is obvious from the pictures below, that I have been an excellent example of how a mom should take care of a baby.

First off as seen in all the pictures, diapers and clothes are totally optional.

You should always carry a baby only by its legs.

Babies love to play in their exersauers especially if placed on their heads.

Luckily Baby Keri made a fuss, so Bree tried a new approach.

Babies love to lie on the Jungle Mat.

Holding babies by their head when placing them in the bouncer is preferable.

And of course, never ever leave the house without at least one shoe.

Bree also helped with some other babies today.

She is very interested to feed her little brother, especially now that he’s having rice cereal instead of just a boring bottle.  You can tell that her aim is a little off today.

Bree also was very interested in the toys of our playdate today, Ms. Hailey Kilpatrick (Marissa is a sorority sister of mine).  Also right after this picture was taken and Bauer was picked up, she laid down right next to Ms. Hailey to keep her company.

I can’t wait to see what other lessons Bree picks up from her mom and dad about how to raise a baby!  I am so thankful for her spirit and all the adventures it will bring to our life.  I am also so thankful for my snuggle bug Bauer whose smile can just melt any and all stressful moments away.

Happy thanksgiving to all of you and your loved ones!

Now bring on that turkey and pumpkin pie!
