Sorority membership pays off…

I sometimes joke around that my sorority experience did little for me except for the fact that I became very crafty with all the practice of making gifts for littles, banners for fraternity philantrophies and “pomping” floats at Homecoming.  Of course, I know how much I really got out of it especially now that I work with Greek students on a daily basis, but sometimes you have to beat people to the punchline!

Today was one of those days that despite the leadership, academic and philantrophic values that were so instilled into me as a Kappa Alpha Theta and despite the sorority providing me with the best friends a girl could ever hope for, I was more thankful for my honed creative skills mentioned above.

Bree has become slightly obsessed with a character named Abby Cadabby from Seseme Street.

Abby is relatively new to the street debuting in 2006 so if you haven’t heard of her have no fear.  She a three year old fairy-in-training who is best buds with Zoe and Elmo.  She currently is known most for her role as ”Abby” in ”Abby in Wonderland”.   I got this movie off Netflix almost a month ago and it has yet to go back.  We watch it maybe 5 times a day.  Sean and I walk around our house and around Arlington singing the catchy tunes.  Bree yells “Abby” every morning just in case we have forgotten that we must start the Abby video first thing.  We dream about this darn movie, everyone dreams about it.  We expect Bauer’s first word to be “Abby” or “Elmo Rabbit”.

Grammy got Bree a Abby shirt for Christmas, that she gave her this weekend due to the obsession reaching new levels.  Between Wednesday and Sunday she wore it for four days.  OBSESSION!  I accidently took off her fleece and pulled her arm out of the Abby shirt and there were shrill screams and panic that I was going to make her take the shirt off.

There is not a lot of Abby stuff out there in mass media markets to buy for our obsessed Bree mainly because Abby is so new to the game.  But one her signature items is a wand…remember, fairy-in-training…so I thought it would be fun to get her a real Abby wand.  They do make them, but they are really cheap looking and Bree would destroy it in a matter of a day.  Oh and they are like $15, no thanks.

So I went through all my crafty stuff here at the house today and got out a bunch of ribbon and a glue gun.

I started with the cardboard part of a pant’s hanger.

And ended up with this.

I was so proud of myself…those sorority memories came flooding back…frames, paddles, t-shirts galore.

Bree was equally impressed…now if she could just figure out what a wand does :)

Do you smell it?

What can I turn mom into?

The adventures with Abby and now Bree’s magic wand never end…stay tuned!
